Character & Leadership Development

Keystone Highway Cleanup
Keystone Club: (14-17) This program helps develop good character and positive leadership skills by engaging youth in the community in volunteer programs, as well as providing leadership within the club for younger members.

Torch Club: (11-13)This is a powerful vehicle for promoting good character among its members through community activities and service projects.

Community Service: all members help with Club Clean-up on a dailybasis as well as community projects. Youth engage in the planning an implementation of community service projects. Some of the projects have included: Beach Clean Up, Highway Clean Up, Grounds Beautification, Ancient Reforestation, Reading to Preschool Keiki, Visiting our Kapuna. Community Service supports children's sense of community responsibility and community engagement through helping them achieve their educational, developmental and social goals.

 
 

Education & Career Development

Power Hour: A comprehensive homework help and tutoring program.

Project Learn: An educational enhancement program that helps reinforce the knowledge youth are learning at school.

Technology Program: Encourages children to explore, invent and create. Software instruction is offered in Microsoft Office, Club Tech, and NetSmartz. Through the instruction and use of these software programs children have the opportunity to not only experience but become creative experts in movie making, image manipulation, computer animation, general document skills and master presentation skills.

An emphasis is placed on internet safety through the NetSmartz software. Kids practice internet safety and social networking safely.Culinary Arts

Culinary Arts: supporting and integrating kids experience with math, science, and reading in a hands on environment where they learn and have an opportunity to practice life skills and explore a possible future vocation.
 
Job Shadow: This program takes teens into the community to experience a variety of career opportunities.

Cultural programs support children in the areas of science, social studies, environmental awareness, sustainability and the celebration of cross cultural awareness and respect. The BGCM- Central offers two specialty programs in this core program area:

Kanaka o Kai Club – Hands on learning and practicing ancient Hawaiian customs of diving, netting, rod fishing is some of the activities offered through this program.

Hawaiian Appreciation- Instruction and practical application of the Hawaiian lifestyle, and living with Aloha. Some activities include Plantation Days Hawaiian Games; Taro Planning, harvesting and making into poi; Lei Making; Hawaiian Language.

 
 

The ArtsOpen Mic Afternoons

Youth members are able to participate in a variety of art projects, including digital arts, photography, arts & crafts, creative writing, dance, music and their projects are often displayed around the Clubs.
 
Hula and Ukulele Program: Designed to teach and embrace Hawaiian music, dance and culture.
 
Open Mic Afternoons: This program helps members use their artistic expressive side with a variety of music and opportunities for performance. 
 
 
 

Health & Life Skills

Passport to Manhood: This program for 11-14 year-old boys is designed to promote positive values and responsible behavior in boys who may not get this guidance at home or in school. It is a very popular program and often graduate become volunteer leaders for the next class.

SMART Moves/ SMART Leaders: A national prevention program that helps young people avoid four of the most immediate threats to their well-being: alcohol, tobacco, other drugs, and early pregnancy.Fresh veggies

GardeningGardening: this program promotes sustainability and health lifestyles teaching members how to cultivate and live off the land.
 
Triple Play: a program designed to promote health and wellness for members ages 9-17. It is a multi-faceted program designed to help young people become healthy, active and learn new ways to handle stress, maintain a healthy body and form positive relationships, using a comprehensive approach that integrates mind, body and soul.
 
 

Sports, Fitness & Recreation

Outdoor Recreation: includes activities like flag football, sham-battle, basketball, swimming softball, kickball, regular fitness programs such as PX90 and Boot Camp.
 
Pool Tournament
Indoor Recreation & Tournaments: Daily games and often tournaments are held in pool, ping pong, foosball and bumper pool.Specialized teachers come on site offering Zumba and hula classes.

Weight Training and Fitness Training: Training is provided for boys and girls, ages 13-17, led by a staff member.

Club Leagues:  All the Boys & Girls Clubs of Maui compete against each other in different sporting activities such as flag football, basketball and softball.
 
Fishing
Indoor Games: Youth have access to a variety of indoor games such as Scrabble, chess, checkers, Hanafuda, Connect Four, Uno and other card games.
 
Teen Dances are held several times a year, as well as "Teen Nights” at the Club.
 
Excursions/Field Trips: Excursions happen many times during the year, and include going to the movies, whale watches, the Maui Ocean Center, the beach, hiking, local sports events, and paddling.
